PETIT JEAN MOUNTAIN, Ark. (March 10, 2010) — Artists of all skills levels are encouraged to sign up for Art Escapes Spring 2010 – a three-day, creatively intense, visual arts workshop atWinthrop Rockefeller Institute. The event takes place April 22-25 atop Petit Jean Mountain.
Art Escapes offers three different workshops, each taught by a working artist. The artists will provide 16 hours of instruction, including individual assistance and critiques.
“The remoteness of Petit Jean Mountain and the personal attention from the instructors makes Art Escapes a truly rewarding learning experience,” said program coordinator Susan Dumas. “Meals and evening programming will allow even more time for all students and instructors to interact.”
Participants can choose between all-inclusive or commuter workshop packages. An all-inclusive workshop includes lodging for three nights and all meals beginning Thursday evening. A commuter workshop includes only certain meals each day. Art supplies are not included in either workshop package.
Workshops featured during Art Escapes Spring 2010 include “Wildlife Painting with Duane Hada,” “Plein Air Pastel Painting with Gary Ozias” and “Color Studies in Oil with Tim Tyler.”
About the Artists
Duane Hada’s wildlife paintings have been prized by collectors and state agencies for years. A lifelong artist and professional fly fishing guide and instructor, Hada has won numerous awards in the field of wildlife painting, and his work has been selected to appear on postage stamps, calendars, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission license plate, and educational posters. His workshop will focus particularly on creating highly realistic and accurate depictions of participants’ favorite wildlife subjects all artistically placed within their natural habitats.
Gary Ozias is a retired language arts teacher who was interested in painting and other visual arts at an early age. Since he began his professional art career in 1983, Ozias has won numerous awards and recognitions for his paintings, which are featured in public and private collections both nationally and internationally. He enjoys painting the natural world, and his subject matter includes wildlife, still life and country landscapes. His workshop will be conducted primarily outdoors and will focus on pastel painting techniques.
Tim Tyler’s sensitivity to color, craftsmanship, and “a certain sense of light” has resulted in paintings critics and collectors have delighted in for almost 30 years. A signature member of the Oil Painters of America, his paintings are included in many notable collections across the country and have been featured in a number of national publications. Tyler has taught workshops across the United States and in Europe since 2001 and has created several instructional videos. In this workshop, he will focus on color, light and design.
The registration deadline for this session of Art Escapes is April 15. Those interested in the workshops can register online or call (501) 727-5435.
