PETIT JEAN MOUNTAIN, Ark. (Jan. 29, 2010) — Whether it’s preparing a romantic dinner with a significant other or spending a day in the kitchen with the entire family, cooking a meal with loved ones can be a rewarding experience. Winthrop Rockefeller Institute is offering culinary classes during Valentine’s weekend for both children and adults.
Classes will be taught by Debbie Dance Uhrig, master craftsman of culinary arts for Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo. At Silver Dollar City, Uhrig teaches cooking classes and assists with the development of programs at the Culinary and Craft School. She is also a noted culinary writer for several newspapers, founder of “The Covered Dish” and author of the cookbook Simply Yours.
A lunch culinary class for adults will take place Sunday, Feb. 14, from 9 a.m. until noon. In this class, participants will prepare grape salad, meatloaf, smashed potatoes, green beans vinaigrette, sourdough biscuits and molasses zucchini cake. The cost of the adult lunch class is $40 per person.
The dinner culinary class for adults will be held Sunday, Feb. 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. Participants will prepare appetizers, spinach salad with honey mustard dressing, asparagus bundles, chicken crepes, Parker House rolls, and white chocolate cheesecake with red raspberry sauce. The cost of the adult dinner class is $50 per person.
On Monday, Feb. 15, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., children ages 8 to 12 will learn how to prepare a variety of wholesome foods – from healthy pancakes and fruit parfaits to Italian sausage bake and green bean bundles wrapped with turkey bacon. The cost of this nutritious cooking class for children is $25 per child or $40 for two children.
All classes are hands-on and are limited to 24 participants per class. Instruction will take place in the Rockefeller Institute’s culinary classroom and recently completed culinary lab.
Other educational workshops focusing on culinary arts and environmental education are scheduled Feb. 12-15 as part of the Rockefeller Institute’s “For the Love of Cooking” and “For the Love of Nature” Valentine’s weekend.
